Dual computer monitor help? (:?
the monitor on my laptop has cracked, now only a quarter of the screen is visible, if i connect it to the pc monitor it goes to dual monitor where it is like one large screen, i want it to be possible to view the laptop’s screen on the pc monitor, is this possible?

Plug the external Monitor into the laptop and boot the machine, it may actually display on both units as it boots up, get into the BIOS settings. Most laptops have the option to start from the LCD (or on-board display) or External Display so you need to tell it to boot from the external one always. It should then boot using the external monitor and not the broken LCD.
If it wont boot from both and you cant get at the settings in the BIOS, wait for Windows to boot, look on the F keys at the top and you should see an icon that perhaps looks like a monitor or sometimes 2 or on some machines it has LCD on the button in blue text. You press the Fn key (Function) lower left of the laptop keyboard and the F key and it will change from the internal LCD to an External display, press again it will display over both (maybe the other way around depending on your laptop) and again will take you back to internal only.
Once in the external screen go to the display settings and make the external device your primary display device and it should always boot using the monitor rather than the laptop screen.
