Keyboard not registering on computer with music program?

I have a Yamaha ez 200 I have the Midi hooked up from the keyboard to my computer and Im trying to use Music Ace Deluxe the problem I am having is the sound will go from the computer to the keyboard but when I press a key on the keyboard it wont register with the program on the computer. Any help would be great I have been messing with this thing for two hours and no progress.

The best utility I can think of to test your midi connection is MIDI-OX http://www.midiox.com/

But from what you’ve said you are trying to get “sound will go from computer to keyboard” … MIDI isn’t sound. It is a serial data stream. So there is some confusion there (or maybe you just misstated the wiring.)

Also MIDI isn’t bi-directional. MIDI from the keyboard to the computer will require another MIDI cable from the keyboard to the MIDI interface. Unless all of this is USB-driven).

Then there’s the hardware setup on the computer. If you go to Control Panel > System > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager you should see your MIDI interface in the “sound, video and game controllers” subgroup. You may need install or update drivers for your MIDI connection.

Finally, your MIDI keyboard must be set to transmit. Generally they are set to OMNI-On (ch 1-16) transmit, and receive on channels 1, 2, 3, and 10. See your keyboard’s documentation for info on setting MIDI channels.
