The affect and impact of industrial wheel chocks
Where there’s a wheel, there’s a way to stop it from moving, in this case, it’s an industrial wheel chock. As the wheels of time are turning, industry itself is changing and adapting to offer newer levels of industry – the production of a good or service that is delivered within an economy. Wheel chocks were developed to put on the ground at the edge of a tire to stop a vehicle from moving, should it be left running, not put in Park or not have an emergency brake on, with safety as the goal. Wheel chocks can be found in all levels of industry.
World Industry Description
The primary industries of the world are those that provide raw materials as in mining and farming, with the secondary level including construction, refining and manufacturing; and the third being the tertiary sector that includes services such as teachers, medicine and law, as well as the distribution – shipping – of manufactured goods. These top three levels, with the exception of purely services such as teaching and law, all require the use of trucks and equipment placed on wheels to produce and deliver the goods. While the fourth, or quatemary level, which is comprised of a knowledge-based industry such as Computer Programming and biochemistry and the fifth, quinary sector of non-profit organizations do not necessarily require or even desire a wheel chock to keep them from moving; in the background they are used when the goods are developed and delivered.
The Affect of Wheel Chocks
What this boils down to is the fact that wheel chocks are a necessary part of the economy, not only for their production and sales, but also for the protection they offer in keeping shipped goods and people surrounding those items safe. OSHA, the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) all have specified wheel chocks as requirements for safety in each industry, with OSHA covering many industries including farming (primary sector), construction (secondary sector), and shipping (tertiary sector).
Industrial Wheel Chock Impact
The impact of wheel chocks on the world covers various sectors as well. They are made from recycled rubber or metal – both originally raw materials found in the primary sector, or from a product from the quatemary sector – polyurethane developed from reaction injection molding (RIM) technology. All chocks must be manufactured – putting the in the secondary level, and then shipped from the tertiary sector. Industrial wheel chocks obviously come from the first four sectors. The final application of industrial wheel chocks is that they are used in all four levels as well, as mentioned above.
As with many products produced and used in the modern world, wheel chocks have a place in several industrial sectors.
